Which Cleaning Method Will You Use To Clean My Asphalt Shingle Roof?
At Northwest Roof Maintenance we use a couple of roof cleaning methods to clean your asphalt shingle roof. When inspecting your roof, our consultants will evaluate the condition of your roof (how worn the shingles are, how much debris and moss has accumulated on the roof, etc.) to determine which roof cleaning method would be best.
Blow-off and Treatment
What we call a “blow-off” is when we use a blower to blow down the loose debris from the roof surface. With this method we are only cleaning the loose debris off of the roof shingles. If there is moss growth on the roof it will not be removed with this method. This is why we recommend pairing this cleaning method with a moss preventative treatment. The preventative treatment will kill the remaining moss and help prevent future moss growth.
This roof cleaning method is by far the easiest on your asphalt shingles and may be the best option for your shingle roof that is already in poor condition and nearing the end of its life.
Brush-off and Treatment
A “brush-off” is when we brush the clumps of moss from the shingles. We will brush off the moss manually, freeing it from the edges of the shingles. Once the moss has been detached from the shingle we will use a blower to blow the loosened moss and debris off the roof. Once the brush-off has been completed we will apply a moss preventative treatment to the roof’s surface to inhibit moss growth.
This roof cleaning method is the most visually appealing. Your roof will look beautiful and clean, giving a boost to the curb appeal and overall appearance of your home.
Is your preventative treatment under warranty?
All of our moss preventative treatments are under warranty up to a year from the first treatment. If the moss does not die away or if moss grows back within that year of the initial service we will come back to re-apply the moss treatment to your roof free of charge.
Will you power wash my asphalt shingle roof?
We will never power wash an asphalt shingle roof. The high pressure from a power wash will damage the shingles, causing granular loss, which can void manufacturers warranties and insurance claims.
